Genesis

2

1THUS the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the 6th day, God finished his works which he had made; and he rested on the 7th day from all his works which he had made. 3So God blessed the 7th day, and sanctified it; because on it he rested from all his works which God created and made.

4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahvah God made the heavens and the earth. 5And all the trees of the field were not yet in the ground, and every herb of the field had not yet sprung up; for Yahvah God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground. 6But a powerful spring gushed out of the earth, and watered all the face of the ground. 7And Yahvah God formed Adam out of the soil of the earth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

8And Yahvah God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9And out of the ground Yahvah God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food; also the tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10And a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided into 4 heads. 11The name of the 1st is Pishon; it is the one which encircles the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12And the gold of that land is good; there is also beryllium and the onyx stone. 13And the name of the 2nd river is Gihon, the one which encircles the whole land of Ethiopia. 14And the name of the 3rd river is Tigris; it is the one which flows east of Assyria. And the 4th river is the Euphrates.

15And Yahvah God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and to keep it. 16And Yahvah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you must not eat; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.

18Then Yahvah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper who is like him. 19And out of the ground Yahvah God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name. 20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to all birds of the air, and to all wild animals; but for Adam there was not found a helper who was equal to him.

21So Yahvah God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the place with flesh. 22And of the rib which Yahvah God had taken from Adam he made a woman, and brought her to Adam. 23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she will be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24Therefore, a man will leave his father and his mother, and will penetrate his wife, and they will be one flesh. 25And they were both naked, Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed.
