Setting Bible Clocks

The hour and minute hand on Bible Clocks are at the same location, at the same time, as the hour and minute hands on a regular 12 hour North American style analog clock.

Given this feature of Bible Clocks, you can set the time the same way as on a regular clock, by adjusting the hour and minute hands so they indicate the current, regular, time. There is an adjustment knob on the back of the clock on the clock motor. Use that knob to adjust the time.

Example

The following is an example. The clock on the left shows an example time on a regular clock. The clock on the right shows the same time, of course, but as it would be seen on a Bible Clock.

Notes on the Joshua, Chiming, Bible Clock

There is a switch in the clock mechanism that drives the chime. To preserve this switch, the clock's time should only be changed by advancing the time.

There are 3 seperate battery compartments on the Joshua clock. The battery compartment near the middle of the clock powers the hands as they go around. There is another compartment that takes 2 AA batteries that powers the chimes. A third compartment holds the battery that supplies power to the pendulum.

The following steps should be followed when setting the time on a Joshua Bible Clock:

  1. Start with all batteries removed.
  2. Advance the hands to just after the 6th hour, (11:02 AM or so.)
  3. Insert the battery for the moter, and the 2 batteries for the chime.
  4. The clock will chime out the 6th hour.

  5. Advance the clock to indicate the current time.
  6. The clock will start to chime out each additional hour as the hands pass the hour.

  7. Install the final battery that powers the pendulum.

The mechanism that chimes out the hour is designed to be powered up just after the 6th hour. This is why the batteries are inserted when the clock is indicating the 6th hour.

The chiming mechanism is silent in the early morning hours, so even though the face indicates 12 hours, the clock is internally running on 24 hours, which is why the clock is set to 11:02 AM when the batteries are installed.
